I am looking for presents for my bridesmaids and I have come across these 'wish pearl' sets. You get an oyster in a tin, and open it and there is a pearl inside and you can then put the pearl in a necklace.
I'm just wondering, is the oyster alive while it is packaged up producingthe pearl? And would we be 'killing' the oyster by cracking it open and getting the pearl out?
I'm asking because I love all creatures and I wouldn't want to harm one uneccessarily.

While not wanting to harm innocent creatures is honorable, the reality is cows, chickens, pigs, etc. all suffer so we can eat and survive. The oyster is just another victim of our whims.
